About Us

Cassie Firebaugh, owner of The Crumb Collective

HI, I'M CASSIE

During a winter visit out west my sister-in-law Ally shared a portion of her starter with me—one that has been passed between families and kitchens in the Montana mountains for more than 70 years. I fell in love with the history behind it and the idea that something so simple could connect people across generations. Side note: as I boarded the plane back to Indiana my brother Brett also bet me a crisp $20 bill that I couldn’t keep it alive for more than 6 months. So if you’re reading this little bro, my Venmo request is pending.

As a busy mom and longtime entrepreneur, I’m used to moving quickly and juggling a million things at once. Sourdough doesn’t work that way. It asks you to slow down, pay attention, trust the process, and work on its timeline instead of your own. What began as a challenge became a creative outlet and, eventually, a new business I never saw coming.

There’s something incredibly fulfilling about creating a loaf by hand, with simple ingredients and without the preservatives found in many store-bought breads, and knowing it will nourish someone special or be received as a thoughtful gift-and it feels full circle.

The Crumb Collective grew from that love of the process—and from my desire to make bread that feels a little more special. Every loaf is handcrafted with intention, rooted in tradition, and made from that same starter whose story began long before mine.

I like to think I’m simply adding another chapter to its journey—and sharing a little piece of it with every loaf.

With gratitude from my table to yours,

Cassie

Taste the Tradition

Every loaf is slow-fermented, hand-shaped, and baked fresh in Carmel.
